Day 8

This morning we made an emergency trip to Children's Hospital. Comfort got out of bed early and was crying with chest pain, shortness of breath and drenched in sweat. The doctors at children's had just met this morning to discuss her surgery and had scheduled it for sometime within the next month, however she has now been admitted and is in ICU and they have re-scheduled her surgery for Thursday at the latest. She had 3 scary episodes while in the ER and one was right in front of the cardiologist. This really got them moving quick. Doctors and nurses ran in and did an amazing job giving her oxygen and morphine to relieve the pain. They are hoping to stabilize her and monitor her for a couple days then take her in for surgery Thursday, but are keeping a close eye on her in ICU and will take her in to emergency surgery if she continues to have problems overnight.
So as the title says......it's day 8 in the USA. That means if Comfort would have been in Ghana only 8 more days, she would have been in real trouble and probably would not have survived. The doctors described it as she has been walking a thin line balancing between doing okay and not doing okay and today she slipped over to the not doing okay side.
THE OTHER THING WE FOUND OUT TODAY IS THAT HER CONDITION IS MORE ADVANCED THAN FIRST THOUGHT. HER UPCOMING SURGERY IS VERY SERIOUS AND DIFFICULT AND RECOVERY IS EQUALLY AS DIFFICULT. WE NEED YOUR PRAYERS!!!!! PLEASE PRAY FOR HER SURGERY AND RECOVERY. WE BELIEVE THAT GOD PRESERVED HER LIFE WHILE IN GHANA AND WE NEED HIM TO CONTINUE TO SUSTAIN HER ALONG WITH THE EXCELLENT MEDICAL CARE THAT CHILDREN'S IS PROVIDING.

We can't begin to thank all of you for your prayers and support. It's a little overwhelming to be going through this so soon after all the adoption stuff, but we are so thankful that this happened here and not in Ghana. Comfort is so sweet and soooo funny! We love her so much and are so thankful for American medical care!
Brian and Josephine are still doing great. They love it here and are adjusting well. Today was a little scary for them, but they asked questions and were happy with the answers. They knew that Comfort would need to go to the hospital to get her heart fixed so they were expecting it and knew what was happening. They are great kids!

Lanae,
I am in tears. Thank God Comfort is here and I will keep her in my prayers.

Thank you so much for taking the time to update us (I am sure it is hard given every thing going on). You know that so many of us in the adoption community are praying for your beautiful daughter...

Hang in there Comfort, you are about to get the surgery you have so desperately needed...

Love,
Jennine

I put the word out to her Luckyhill family here, and all who loved loved her for years at the orphanage in Ghana. We are all praying fervently for her and your entire family Lanae.
I LOVE YOU COMFORT! You have been in my prayers constantly since our first Dr. visit in Ghana. I will never forget how brave you were and have continued to be!

Please tell Comfort that "Sister Becky" (that's what she always called me in Ghana) is praying, just like we did that long, horrible night in Ghana. She's a fighter, she was then, and I KNOW she has it in her now that her mom is finally by her side. That's all that kept her going in the heat, and with no medicine, while we were there. That, and a whole lot of prayer. She made it. She has her mom. God carried her to her new family, He's not turning His back now, I just know it. I'm sending up a whole lot of good thoughts and prayers.
Be brave, Comfort! Keep on fighting!!!!

Taiger and I are praying for you and your family! Praying Brian and Josephine will continue to adjust well in the face of this hard time. Praying the rest of your bio kids will continue to adjust, especially as Mom and Dad are busy taking care of Comfort. Praying for Mom and Dad to have the strength to care for all of their children and the faith and strength to support Comfort in her time of need. Praying Comfort will have the Holy Ghost to comfort her in ways no one else can. Praying her body will heal and be able to do well. Praying for wisdom and insight from the Holy Ghost to be with the doctors and nurses and surgeons caring for Comfort as they work with and for and on Comfort, and as they make life changing decisions on behalf of this little girl.

Please tell Comfort that we LOVE her so much and are praying for her. Also, please tell your other children (including Brian and Josephine) that we love them and understand how hard this is on them, and are proud of them for being such good kids and good siblings to Comfort.

Love and Prayers,
Breclyn and Taiger

Lanae,

Added prayers from Tulsa, OK going up for Comfort and your family. I have faith that the Lord did not bring her "home" only to take her to our ultimate "home" so quickly. He as a plan for Comfort's LIFE, and will bring her through this!
